Little Chloe Jo,
Today is the day.

How can it possibly be your birthday again? Didn't we just celebrate your 3rd birthday with all of your friends and a zoo train cake? Another year has flown by. And today I sit and reflect again... because for a mother, her daughter's birthday is also the day to remember when her life changed forever.
As I have written before, you were 3 weeks and 1 day early... a surprise if there ever was one. you were a tiny little thing. 4 lbs 8 oz when we took you home. We knew you were little, but boy if we would have had your brother first, we REALLY would have understood how little you were.
The first year held lots of learning for both you and your Mommy and Daddy. You taught us how to be patient and how to put someone else ahead of ourselves. You gave us endless smiles and laughter with your monkey sounds and "thumping."

Your second year of life brought walking and some talking. You started spending one day a week at the McKenna boys and we still hear endless stories about "Conner and Aidan." Your sweet personality started to come out. You're a bit shy like your Daddy, until you get comfortable with people and then you're the star of the show!

The third year of life you got a little spunkier. Time outs because a regular thing in our house. You started attending zoo classes and LOVE them to this day. Favorite food made their way into your routine, although you still eat the same breakfast you did the day you turned one - fruit, yogurt, Cheerios and milk. You love being outside, especially in winter and Halloween and Christmas are your favorite holidays.

That brings us to 4 years, Chlo Jo. The best of our lives. I said every year, but if we could bottle you up, right now, Pookie, we would. The way you talk and form sentences. Your little sayings and how you make your animals talk. Your smiles and funny faces. Your hugs. The way you dance when music is on. The way you sing along to your favorite songs. We just can't get enough.
Our birthday wish for you always is health and happiness. Your Daddy and I realized more than ever this year that health is fleeting and we can't take it for granted. You are such a funny, happy little girl. Of course, you'll always be my baby. In the way that I am still my mother's baby and in the way that she is still the baby of her mother. I know that you are growing up, and I will find joy and happiness in that journey. But, I will cherish these fleeting toddler moments with you, Chloe. Your daddy and I vow still to leave no kiss unkissed and no cuddle uncuddled, no matter what the hour of day or night. This is the promise we will make to you every year on your birthday.
Laugh. Oh do laugh! Your giggle is just one of the many things I love so much about you. The room lights up when you laugh and my heart sings. Laugh with your friends, laugh at the world, and laugh at yourself.
Keep reading. You love books more than anyone I know. We probably read about 15 books a day, and you read another 10 or so books on your own. You ask that we read to you when you get up, when you eat your meals, and before bed. You take books to bed with you and spend hours looking at them. Always love books, Chloe, like your Mommy does.
Be creative. You love your art. Sometimes you'll just ask me to "do art." It could be coloring or painting or cutting or glueing. Whatever it is, if you're creating it and building it, you are content. Most of the time these "creations" end up at school. My classroom is your gallery, Chloe Jo. I love it.
Dream big. Keep trying new things. Like riding your big girl 2 wheel bike. And playing with "real" little LEGOS. And trying out soccer and baseball and basketball class.
I have faith in you my beautiful daughter. I love you forever and look forward to a lifetime of experiences with you. Thank you for all the smiles and even some of the tears. Thank you for always loving me and teaching me everyday how to be a better person. Thank you for being a part of our family. Thank you for being such a good big sister to your little brother... he adores you. But most of all…thank you for just being you.
