Independence Day Parade

Chloe here. We've had such a a busy summer that I'm STILL playing catch up. It's just way more fun to play outside and do things than sit and blog. So, enjoy some more catch up posts. My goal is to be done by the time Mommy starts school.

We went to the Brookfield parade. It was on July 5, because the 4th fell on a Sunday so we got to extend the holiday weekend! Grammie Jo and Grandpa came too.

Mommy told me this was my candy bucket, but then she put Cheerios in it. I think I just discovered them in this picture.

Daddy and I got to walk a bit of the parade route before the madness started.

I think Spunky was hoping to catch some candy!

Family picture! That darn balloon just wouldn't behave.

C'mon, let's get the show on the road!

Little girls are waiting!

Mommy told me to be patient, but it was hard. I get my impatience from Mommy anyhow.

We put Spunky in the bucket for awhile so she wouldn't get run over. The parade's finally starting, people!

The first thing to come by were the emergency vehicles. Once again, they were too loud for my little ears so Daddy took care of me.

Waving at some tall people.

And they waved back!

Brookfield East Spartanettes.

Starting my candy collection. Tootsie Rolls are my favorite, just like Daddy.

Then the UW marching band came. I couldn't help it, I was dancing in my seat!

So Daddy scooped me up and we did a little jig.

We were hot and sweaty by the end so Daddy gave me a ride on his manly shoulders.

It was soooo much fun. See how happy I am? This could be THE photo of the summer, people. What do you think?

21 Months

Chloe Jo is 21 months. This month, as you can see from the previous post, her talking really took off. She can say many more words, and will pretty much try to say any word that we ask her to. It's REALLY fun. However, she only "performs" for immediate family. Anyone who's last name isn't Simek, Shemanske or Hamm might think that our child is a mute.

She finally learned how to say "no." It's still pretty cute, but I'm sure it will get old soon. We'll have to catch a video of it.

She is very into her favorite bedtime stories. We read about 6 (!) each night. Her favorites include Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb, Cha Cha Chimps, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, the whole Brown Bear series by Eric Carle the Pookie series and the Priddy Books with all of the pictures. She will sit and read books by herself now, too.

She can climb up the ladder on her playset by herself and likes going down the slide... and climbing back up the slide!

She is starting to smile when we ask her to for pictures, but it looks like those pictures in the middle of the post above with her on the bench... kind of like she's growling.

She's very helpful with things around the house... dusting, throwing things away, wiping up spills.

This month is the first month we've tried time-outs... complete with timer and it seems to be working ok. She sits on the welcome mat for time out, then has to say "I'm sorry" and give a hug to the person that gave her the time-out.

She has learned to hit her T-ball nicely.

She is wearing sizes 18-24 month clothing, and we recently bought 2T (!) leggings for fall. She is wearing a size 5 shoes.

She is energetic and charming and exhausting and wonderful and hilarious. Love you Chlo!
